The Story of the Compass Library Table…
Good morning White Wallers! I hope you are all well and have a wonderful day of creating or decorating ahead of you!
Where to you find your best deals? I can say that for me I find my best at this little junk shop in my one stop light town. It is ran by three older men and they only take cash. They are hilarious and fun every time I go in there. They allow me to haggle but unlike Goodwill and Salvation Army… it is a hot unorganized mess… dusty and dirty ad down right awesome! I feel like I am rummaging through someones attic looking for treasures and I am sure that one of these days I will find a Cifferobe to buy there that I can walk into and wind up in Narnia!
One of my latest finds was this scratched up, dented, dusty, dirty, heavy and bulky old library table. Some call it a drum table too. I walked by this table twice before I noticed it the third time. That is the kind of store it is… so much stuff you have to make multiple rounds to find the good treasures. I talked the guys down $5 off the price. Not to much because it was a good deal anyway. But I had no visions or ideas of what to do with this poor sad little thing.
This stocky little guy sat in my garage for almost 6 months before I found time, and a vision of what to do with him.
First off he needed some lighter colors… why? Well I honestly felt he needed to loose some weight/bulk. Heavy dark furniture is not all the rage right now. Second I felt this round top would be wonderful for a new design I was working on. It is inspired by quite a few different compasses I found online.
After sanding down the top outside I began this recording of the sketching, staining, painting and inking of the details and design of this compass table top. Watch this video to see how it all came together!
